How do you transport your fish properly for your move? This article will help you prepare the aquarium and fish for transport whether you are moving on your own or with a removal company.
Transporting an aquarium is not easy. Just like transporting a terrarium, there is a lot of preparation that goes into protecting your aquarium and moving your pet.
Preparing your aquarium before moving
Before the day of your move, it is important to prepare the aquarium for transport. Whether you use a moving company or move on your own, you cannot transport the aquarium as it is.
Before moving, uproot the plants from your aquarium and store them in a box filled with water. You can use this time to prune them if necessary.
On the day of the move, transfer your fish(es) with a landing net to a special transport box. Empty the water and sand into the transport boxes and clean the aquarium properly with white vinegar.
Protect the aquarium with bubble wrap to prevent damage. For small aquariums that fit in a moving box, you can simply protect the aquarium with bubble wrap and put a fragile note on the cardboard. Aquariums of 54 litres or more are considered furniture. They will be protected and transported by the removal company.
